Applications Development Specialist

The Applications Development Specialist is responsible for developing and supporting software products related to core processing for GeoVera Holdings, Inc. Essential to success in this role is the ability to follow direction, good collaboration skills, ability to meet target deadlines, flexibility and an aptitude for learning quickly in a technical environment.

Essential Functions

  • Program, install, configure and maintain software enhancements and integrations based on the needs of company Business Units.
  • Strong collaboration skills are needed for frequent interactions with Business Units, other IT groups and external vendors and consultants to develop, enhance and implement new and current systems and services.
  • Implement and maintain product and service delivery processes for enterprise-wide software products.
  • Diagnose and resolve software problems to minimize the duration of system outages. Work within the problem and outage resolution processes established and documented.
  • Utilize corporate project methodologies and project management techniques. Adhere to change management, product/service development and other relevant job function processes.
  • Prepare and deliver formal presentations and written documentation to colleagues and management.

Perform other related duties as required and assist with special projects.

Minimum Requirements

Education, training, and experience: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field or equivalent combination of High School Diploma/GED, and training and work experience.
  • Two or more years of technology experience strongly preferred. Certificates in relevant technical disciplines are a plus.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities: 

  • Knowledge of and experience with programming in C#, SQL Server, HTML, and/or ASP.Net.  Experience with MVC design, client-side jQuery/javascript and/or Cobol would be a plus
  • Property & Casualty insurance knowledge desired
  • Demonstrated interest in computer technology and desire to learn and apply new technology skills. Solid background required in the specific technology that the person will support.
  • Must be able to work well both independently and collaboratively on a team
  • Must be able to accommodate scheduled 24X7 on-call duties and specific job functions outside of the normal workweek
  • Requires excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain positive, cooperative working relationships within the team, division and any customer contacts
  • Strong analytical skills and a high achievement and learning orientation required
  • Some travel will be required
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy, able to prioritize effectively and meet deadlines. Ability to deal with changing priorities
  • Works well with management and co-workers
