Our Director, IT Development directs and coordinates software development activities including custom development, web-based user interface design, support of commercial applications and middleware, interfaces, etc. In addition, this role has responsibility for database administration as well as operational reporting, data feeds and downloads.


Key to success for this role is strong partnering and collaboration with this role’s counterpart Directors in the IT organization. IT Directors have full responsibility for all development activities throughout the enterprise. Each has specific focus areas as well as areas of overlap which will benefit from skilled partnering and collaboration expertise.


The successful candidate will have substantial experience with application development, change management, data feeds, database administration concepts, UI design and project management. Strong communication, leadership and people-management skills are essential in this flexible and fast-paced environment.

Essential Functions

  • Manage assigned development activities ensuring operational excellence.
  • Lead project committees as assigned for the purpose of resolving technical and business issues, evaluating products, determining system development direction, or addressing other issues important to the organization. Tasks could include analysis, design, statistical compilation, the development of recommendations, cost justification and actual implementation.
  • Instrumental in the development and implementation of department and unit mission, plans, objectives and operational budgets. Contributes strongly to annual operational plans and strategic/long range divisional plans.
  • Provide leadership in the introduction, assimilation and support of new and emerging technology. This includes the pursuit of continued improvements in the Methods and tools used to develop and maintain information systems and data repositories. Reliability, quality and cost-effectiveness of the current portfolio of information systems.
  • Manage and lead department staff, including human resource planning, resource allocation, staff selection, training and development, performance management, salary administration and termination. Act as coach and mentor, provide motivation and developmental opportunities, set a strong leadership example and foster teambuilding.
  • Collaborate and communicate with customer departments to ensure a high correlation among customer needs, company goals and information system products.
  • Communicate new and revised corporate policies and procedures to staff and monitor use and application.
  • Responsible for ensuring twenty-four hours/day availability of critical information systems.

Minimum Requirements

Education, training, and experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field and/or equivalent combination of High School Diploma/GED, training and work experience with courses/background in information systems and computer programming.
  • Ten or more years’ experience in Information Technology with five or more in management of technical teams.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Must possess in-depth technical knowledge of systems/programming techniques and the inter-relationship of company information systems, as well as an understanding of the business needs of GeoVera Holdings, Inc.
  • Experience with the following preferred:
    • Web-based user interface design.
    • Financial/accounting systems and concepts
    • Data warehousing and data calls
    • High performance computing, big data concepts
    • Insurance experience/background strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with infrastructure – server builds, networks, data center management, etc.
  • Experience with cybersecurity concepts and implementations in regards to both custom and commercial software.
  • Demonstrate well-developed oral, written, interpersonal communications and presentation skills.
  • Exceptional, leadership, project management and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong collaboration skills, problem resolution and decision making abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and deal with changing priorities.
  • Team player willing to work in an environment where individual initiative and accountability are required.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy, able to prioritize effectively and meet deadlines
