The SQL Server Database Administrator (DBA) will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server RDBMS systems, to ensure the availability and consistent performance of our corporate applications. This is a “hands-on” position requiring solid technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.


The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and sustainment of the SQL Server, ensuring its operational readiness (security, health and performance), executing data loads, and performing data modeling in support of multiple development teams.

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for the logical design and physical implementation of the applications, backups, disaster recovery, space allocation, object design and all other areas of database design, implementation, maintenance and construction.
  • Database software configuration, database software installation and upgrades and supporting procedures and utility programs that run on servers for data processing and database updates. 
  • Manage SQL Server databases through multiple product lifecycle environments, from development to mission-critical production systems.
  • Monitor system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
  • Apply data modeling techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations.
  • Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
  • Assist developers with complex query tuning and schema refinement.
  • Provide 24x7 support for critical production systems.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
  • Share domain and technical expertise, providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other peers and team members.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Performs other related duties as required and assists with special projects.


Minimum Requirements

Education, training, and experience:


  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field and/or equivalent combination of High School Diploma/GED, training and work experience.
  • MCSE (Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert) with 7+ years MS SQL Server Administration experience required.
  • Experience with Performance Tuning and Optimization (PTO), using native monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Experience with backups, restores and recovery models.
  • Strong Experience in writing Scripts, Views, Triggers, Stored Procedures and Functions, query plans, performance views, trace files and other SQL Server tools.

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:


  • Knowledge of High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) options for SQL Server.
  • Solid working experience in data modeling.
  • Good working knowledge of SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services) and SSRS (SQL Server Reporting Services).
  • Understand Data Warehouse/Data Mart concept or working knowledge with SSAS (SQL Server Analysis Services) or similar tools is a plus.
  • Experience using/troubleshooting various client data connectivity tools.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Flexible, team player, “get-it-done” personality.
  • Ability to organize and plan work independently.
  • Ability to work in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy, able to prioritize effectively and meet deadlines.
