  • Summary

    This position plays a key role in the Legal and Compliance Department which works in partnership with business and corporate units across the organization to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, influence pending regulatory and legislative matters, make regulatory filings, and coordinate Department of Insurance inquiries and market conduct examinations.

    Essential Functions

    With minimal supervision, provide assistance to the Director of Compliance and General Counsel in carrying out the day-to-day activities of the department to ensure compliance and respond effectively to regulatory and legislative actions. Work on special projects, as needed, to help carry out company’s mission and strategic goals and objectives.

    • Lead preparation of regulatory product filings (forms, rates and rules), through SERFF.
    • Analyze and negotiate with state regulators on complex filings to achieve approvals on a timely basis.
    • Oversee compliance with surplus lines eligibility requirements and filings.
    • Analyze and advise Management, Underwriting, Product Development and Analytics and other departments on regulatory requirements to comply with applicable laws, rules and regulations.
    • Coordinate and oversee internal audit responsibilities which focus on processes and controls to identify and minimize compliance risks.  
    • Monitor admitted product regulatory requirements to ensure compliance.
    • Coordinate and respond to market conduct examinations, collaborating with the Director of Compliance and General Counsel or management.
    • Research and report on legislative actions as to impact on business and operations. Work with management to ensure timely action is taken in response.
    • Record, analyze, distribute and respond to consumer complaints from state insurance departments and other regulatory authorities.  Prepare monthly and quarterly consumer complaint reports for management. 

    Additional Responsibilities - Performs other related duties as required and assists with special projects.

    Minimum Requirements

    Education, training, and experience:

    • Bachelor’s Degree in related field and/or equivalent combination of High School Diploma/GED, training and work experience.

      • Compliance Analyst:  Minimum of 2 years as assistant regulatory compliance analyst or related function. Insurance coursework such as INS 21, 22 and 23 or related desirable, with desire to continue insurance education.
      • Sr. Compliance Analyst:  Minimum of 5 years as regulatory compliance analyst, preferably at a P&C insurance company, or related function; will consider alternative related skills and experience, such as law degree, paralegal certificate, insurance certifications or other compliance designations.  CPCU designation/related insurance course work or paralegal certificate desirable.

     

    Knowledge, skills, and abilities:

    • Ability to work with minimal supervision in a team environment and to influence others to ensure timely and accurate response to regulatory requirements.
    • Superior analytical, communication and organization skills, including ability prepare persuasive correspondence to regulators and other external parties and to articulate complex issues in an understandable manner
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and work efficiently and accurately under frequent time pressures.
    • Proficiency in the use of multiple word processing and PC-based software packages such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint and SERFF 
    • Ability to handle multiple tasks with accuracy, able to prioritize effectively and meet deadlines
    • Ability to works well with management and co-workers
